Macrons in the title
Should we put macrons in the page titles? On the one hand, it is more accurate. On the other hand, someone making a Google search is very likely to do it without the macrons, and I am not sure that he will find camerapedia's page easily. --Rebollo fr 11:11, 16 May 2006 (EDT)
- That's what redirects are for! Actually I thought of making redirects (from e.g. "Ofuna Kogaku"), but I was (and for the next 24 hours or so will continue to be) too busy/lazy/sleepy to try to look for evidence of how Ōfuna referred to itself in English (if it did so at all). I wouldn't be surprised if it referred to itself as something like "Ofuna Optical Co Ltd"; if it did, then either "Ofuna Optical" or "Ofuna" would be the way to go, and the existing page would be moved to that. Suggestion: let's not worry about it for a day or two. (Of course if during that time you too would like to look for evidence of how Ōfuna referred to itself in English, go ahead.) If we still don't know after a day or two, then we can discuss the matter here. -- Hoary 11:19, 16 May 2006 (EDT)
- An English-language ad shown on p.162 of Hagiya's book announces the company as Ofuna Optical Instrument Manufacturing Co Ltd; around the taking lens of the Ofunaflex (as shown on p.156) we read simply "Ofuna Opt. Co.". My idle guess is that "Ofuna Optical Co." (or "Ofuna Optics Co.") was never a name for the company but merely a reasonable solution to a lack of space for engraving. Anyway, "Ofuna" seems sufficient to identify this company, which is the reason why I've changed the title from "Ōfuna Kōgaku" to simple "Ofuna". -- Hoary 23:58, 16 May 2006 (EDT)
